Ice climbing is strictly illegal in Thacher Park under
current rules.
While sport rock climbing has been approved, ice climbing is
still under review.

The Coeymans Limestone creates a capstone for the cliff and is
quite resistant to erosion. Multiple streams flow over the cliffs
in the state park.
Several of the ice falls consist of huge pillars extending down from
the 100′ overhanging cliff.

The TCC provided parks with an official ice report in spring
of 2013 so they are fully aware of the nature of the sport of
ice climbing and how it can be achieved and managed at Thacher.
We hope they will accept this and open ice climbing at the park.
